Awards and grants to attend TESOL International 2011


TESOL INTERNATIONAL OFFERS AWARDS AND GRANTS TO ATTEND THE INTERNATIONAL CONVENTION IN NEW ORLEANS NEXT YEAR

The TESOL Professional Development Scholarships

All current TESOL members are eligible to apply. These scholarships assist in the professional development of TESOL members by facilitating attendance at the annual convention through a complimentary convention registration. Recipients may also choose to attend a pre- or postconvention institute (PCI) in addition to the convention.

Professional Development Travel Grant for Practicing ESL/EFL Teachers

TESOL members who are practicing ESL/EFL teachers or teacher trainers and need financial support to attend the annual TESOL convention are eligible to apply for this award.

The Ruth Crymes TESOL Academies Fellowships

Any TESOL member who is a classroom teacher or teacher trainer/supervisor is eligible to apply. This award supports teachers who plan on attending a TESOL Convention, Academy, or Symposium.

The Mary Finocchiaro Award for Excellence in Nonpublished Pedagogical Materials
Any TESOL member is eligible to apply. This award recognizes a TESOL member(s) who has achieved excellence through the development of practical pedagogical materials not currently under consideration for publication.

The Albert H. Marckwardt Travel Grants


Graduate student TESOL members in TESL/TEFL programs worldwide are eligible for this award, which helps to fund graduate students traveling to a TESOL convention.

The Ruth Crymes TESOL Fellowship for Graduate Study

TESOL members who are or have been enrolled within the past year in a TESOL or TEFL graduate program that prepares teachers to teach ESOL are eligible for this award. The Ruth Crymes TESOL Fellowship for Graduate Study supports recent or current graduate students in the development of projects with direct application to ESOL language classroom instruction.

TESOL Award for Dedication to Community College ESL Teaching

The award is given to an outstanding community college instructor who has demonstrated a commitment to teaching ESL to facilitate his/her attendance at the TESOL annual convention. This award is supported by Heinle, a part of Cengage Learning.

TESOL Award for Teacher as Classroom Action Researcher

Any instructor who is a TESOL member, who has at least 5 years of English language teaching experience, and who has completed a significant classroom action research project is eligible to apply. This award recognizes excellence in action research on English language teaching and learning in an ESL/EFL classroom. The award is sponsored by the College Board.

TESOL Award for Distinguished Research

Any TESOL member who has completed an empirical research project and a subsequent scholarly paper that will be published in 2010 in TESOL Quarterly or another scholarly journal is eligible to apply. This award recognizes excellence in any area of research on language teaching and learning. The award is sponsored by Heinle, a part of Cengage Learning.

TESOL Award for an Outstanding Paper on NNEST Issues

TESOL members who have had a proposal accepted for presentation (paper or colloquium) on NNEST issues at the annual TESOL convention are eligible to apply. Both native and nonnative speakers of English may apply. This award recognizes scholarship on NNEST issues and is sponsored by East Carolina University.

The TESOL/TEFL Travel Grant
TESOL members who are currently practicing EFL teachers, teacher trainers, or supervisors with at least 5 years of experience in a non-English-speaking setting are eligible to apply. This award helps EFL professionals attend a TESOL convention, and preference will be given to applicants who have never attended one.

TESOL Awards for International Participation at TESOL

TESOL members who (a) are from a country outside the US or Canada, (b) are submitting a proposal for the Annual TESOL Convention, and (c) will be presenting for the first time at the annual convention are eligible to apply. TESOL members currently living in the US or Canada are not eligible. Preference will be given to applicants from countries underrepresented at TESOL conventions. The award is sponsored by the TOEFL Board of ETS.
